    volcanic rocks cool quicker than plutonic rocks. Plutonic rocks form deep underground and have a lot of time for their crystals to grow and renovate. In the case of volcanic rock, they cool rapidly and have small to no time for crystals to renovate, in fact some volcanic rocks cools so quickly that no crystals form at all. These rocks are called volcanic glass. There are many types of volcanic glass but the best known variety is obsidian
