How Do I make a Human Size Greek Sculpture?
I need tο mаkе аn Aphrodite (Greek Human Sculpture) fοr a friend. I wаѕ thinking οf using Plasti-Rock, bυt I јυѕt found out іt wаѕ taken οff thе market. I need ѕοmе advise. I hаνе never done something thаt size (5 feet tall) before. I аm hoping someone out thеrе hаѕ experience іn thіѕ media thаt mіght bе аblе tο give mе ѕοmе advise аnd guidance. Please hеlр.
Okay…depends…indoor or outdoor? Huge difference.
If it’s just going to be indoor, then go with a wireframe and either papier mache or plaster strips to get the form going. That way it will be hollow and simple to go. You can use any faux-end paint you want to dress it up and make it look like stone afterwards.
Otherwise, if you’re responsibility an outside sculpture you need something that can handle the weather. Obviously marble and bronze are the first choices of the serous sculptor, but those can be VERY expensive and hard to work with. A excellent choice for an outdoor wood is either redwood or cedar, which when treated, will hold up well for many years. Resin casting doesn’t work unless you have a LOT of equipment and access to an booster molder.
Your best bet is going with the indoor plaster or paper model. Besides, if you go papier mache, then it will be light sufficient your friend may possibly always go it outside on nice days.
I reckon I would go with what dominus above said, for teh most part, except to maybe use fibergalss mat and resin to back a lot of the structure, even if it goes over the paper mache. It will make the whole thing a bit stronger over all.
Hi:
Check out the website for the Compleat Sculptor and many things relating to sculpture.
Also, check out the wonderful online artist community, wetcanvas. There is a sculpture channel, and many artists are very helpful with any questions that others have. There are many articles that people have place together that might give you some real help in this area. Basic connection is completely free, and there are currently more than 112,000 worldwide members, you can also browse many areas as a guest.
Hope this helps, and that sounds like a very fun scheme.
Well, that’s quite a scheme. I reckon ‘artistpw” gave you a fantastic place to go. For something a small different, you might want to check out this artist that works using reinforce and paper fiber. He’s also most generous when it comes to help. This post may take a small time to load if you have dial-up, like I do. (because of length) It’s worth it.
