River rocks are natural & decorative. I use them in my flower beds to make like a "creek bed" so the water running off the roof doesnt wash away my mulch.
You can purchase them from garden centers...not expensive at all.

Soil will filter back inbetween the rocks and clog up your drain. Better solution would be do what your lazy previous owner didn't do, put in a proper drain. If you aren't up for that, you could put in a burrito drain, or french drain. Dig out a path to the drains, line it with landsape fabric leaving enough to overlap on the top, fill with rock.....at least 1 1/2 inch coarse or larger, fold over the top fabric and then put the soil back.......or rock the top so you remember where the drain runs.
