This is fantastic- I can’t pattern for the life of me so I want to try to needle felting for my soft sculpted dolls.

It can be really hard to find wool roving at the local craft stores no one around me sold any…I finished up buying my roving from American Felt and Craft online, I am not sure what kind it is but it needle felted really nicely.

Not stupid at all!! I am using Norwegian C1 Felting Batts. You won’t likely find it in your craft stores. You may find Merino or Corriedale Roving – But I clarify different types of wool and needles on my website – see my profile – I can’t seem to post a link here.

Sorry if this is a stupid question, but what is the technical name of the felt you used in the video? If I were to go to a crafts store to buy one, what should I question for? What is the name of the needled you used? Thanks in advance =D
I like needle felting too but you are so much more talented than me, I just do small animals and such. I will later take on the huge task at felting people. Awesome and creative work! Thanks too for the tip too about keeping the torso a soft core, makes a lot sense to me now
You are welcome – I like sharing my like of needle felting! There are a couple of reasons not to felt the torso firm – It makes it simpler to attach the limbs and it makes sculpting the final shape after the limbs are on much simpler. And – it takes much less poking!
Now why did you not want the torso firm?

You need a felting needle, you can buy them from a few places online and they come in different sizes. They have small sharp burrs as the end of the needle to pull the wool around, if you do an online search different companies will be able to advise you what size needle you need. Hope that helped!

thanks for the video! I wanted to start this scheme like this and I made the torso for my scheme which is a brown dog. The thing is though, I do’t really know wool, but my wool came in strips it isn’t really fluffy and full like your wool. If you can, how can I make my wool look like yours? Also, how would I connect piece to piece? Please answer my questions, it would help me a bunch!
